Competitive racing usually requires tires built for rugged usage. The Proxes R888R is Toyo's foray into this market, and it's certainly a remarkable tire in many different ways. The tire isn't designed for typical non-competitive driving, and you won't find these on any commercial vehicle. However, even though what it does is very narrow, the tire delivers quite well on its promise. The tread compound is designed to heat up in a flash, taking time off the warm-up process. The tire tread has massive outboard shoulders that help with the lateral grip that a car will need on a competitive track. The dry-grip on this tire is superb, offering superior cornering and handling in most conditions. Unfortunately, it doesn't provide good wet-surface handling and should be replaced if trying to make time on a wet track. It also doesn't handle extreme temperatures well and is suitable for use only in dry, temperate track conditions.
