Bridgestone Corporation is an international automobile parts manufacturer founded by Shojiro Ishibashi in Kurune, Fukuoka, Japan in 1931. The name ""Bridgestone"" traces its origins back to the calque Japanese translation of ishibashi, which means ""stone bridge"" in Japanese. The first Bridgestone tire was manufactured on April 9, 1930 and shortly after, founder Shojiro Ishibashi established the Bridgestone Tyre Company. Bridgestone tires are engineered largely on Japanese technology and emphasizes importance on quality and manufacturing processes. Founder Shojiro Ishibashi states that Bridgestone is dedicated to ""serving society with superior quality."" Bridgestone was the first Japanese tire company to utilize rayon cord tires in 1951 and nylon tires in 1959.
